Lee Ufan has been selected as the recipient of the 32nd Wolfgang Hahn Prize, awarded by the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. The Wolfgang Hahn Prize honors one internationally acclaimed contemporary artist each year. Past recipients include Francis Alÿs (2023) and Cindy Sherman (1997).
This year’s guest juror, Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, offered the following statement: “Over the sixty-year trajectory of his artistic practice, he has pursued the essential meaning of existence across all relationships that transcend East and West, neither following Western modernism nor being bound by Eastern spiritual traditions.” Following the award ceremony on November 6, 2026, an exhibition of Lee Ufan’s work will open at the Museum Ludwig from November 7 through April 4.
Lee Ufan’s works From Point (1975), Departure Port B (1999), Untitled (2019), and his new work Silentium (Muksiam) from the Hoam Museum of Art are currently on view in Gallery Hyundai’s exhibition Rock, Paper, Scissors: Transformation of Paper.
이우환이 쾰른 루트비히 미술관 현대미술협회가 주최하는 제32회 볼프강 한상의 수상자로 선정되었다. 볼프강 한상은 국제적으로 인정받은 현대미술가를 기리며 매년 1명을 선정해 수여한다. 주요 수상자로는 프란시스 알리스 (2023), 신디 셔먼(1997) 등이 있다.
올해의 객원 심사위원인 도쿄 모리 미술관 관장 마미 카타오카는 다음과 같은 심사평을 남겼다. “60년의 작업 세계 여정 동안 그는 서구 모더니즘을 따르거나 동양의 영적 전통에 얽매이지 않고 동서양을 초월하는 모든 관계 속에서 존재의 본질적인 의미를 탐구해 왔다." 2026년 11월 6일 시상식에 이어 다음날인 11월 7일부터 4월 4일까지 루트비히 박물관에서 이우환의 전시가 열릴 예정이다.
현재 갤러리현대 전시 《Rock, Paper, Scissors: Transformation of Paper》에서 이우환의 〈점으로부터〉(1975), 〈출발항 B〉(1999), 〈무제〉(2019), 호암미술관에서 신작 〈실렌티움(묵시암)〉를 만나볼 수 있다.
