Christine Sun Kim 김 크리스틴 선: 2026 MacArthur Fellow

Christine Sun Kim has been announced as one of the 2026 MacArthur Fellows by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Known as the “Genius Grant,” the MacArthur Fellowship is awarded to individuals across a wide range of fields, including writers, scientists, artists, social scientists, humanists, teachers, entrepreneurs, and others, who have demonstrated exceptional originality and dedication to their creative pursuits. The MacArthur Foundation described Kim as an artist “exploring the political, cultural, and multisensory dimensions of sound, spoken language, and communication.”

The MacArthur Fellows Program aims to recognize and support creative individuals who show the potential for meaningful future advances based on a record of significant accomplishments. MacArthur Fellows receive a no-strings-attached award of $800,000, paid over five years. Recipients are not selected through applications or unsolicited nominations, but through a process involving invited external nominators and an independent selection committee.

MacArthur Foundation)이 수여하는 2026 맥아더 펠로우십(MacArthur Fellowship) 수상자로 선정되었다. 흔히 ‘천재들의 상’ 또는 ‘지니어스 그랜트(Genius Grant)’로 불리는 맥아더 펠로우십은 작가, 과학자, 예술가, 사회과학자, 인문학자, 교육자, 기업가를 비롯해 다양한 분야에서 탁월한 독창성과 창작 활동에 대한 헌신을 보여준 개인에게 수여된다. 맥아더 재단은 김 크리스틴 선을 “소리, 구어, 소통의 정치적, 문화적, 다감각적 차원을 탐구하는 작가”로 소개했다.

맥아더 펠로우 프로그램은 중요한 성취를 바탕으로 향후 의미 있는 발전 가능성을 보여주는 창의적인 인물을 조명하고 지원하는 것을 목표로 한다. 수상자에게는 조건 없이 사용할 수 있는 80만 달러의 지원금이 5년에 걸쳐 지급된다. 맥아더 펠로우는 별도의 지원이나 임의 추천이 아닌, 초청된 외부 추천자와 독립 선정위원회의 검토를 거쳐 결정된다.
