Ayoung Kim 김아영: Somerset House
Oct 16 – Oct 18, 2026
Ayoung Kim’s new interactive video game work, Delivery Dancer Reflex: Eternity, will debut at 3 Evenings: Experiments in Performance and Technology, presented by Somerset House in London from October 16 to 18, 2026. A contemporary reimagining of 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering, a landmark 1966 performance series in New York that brought together artists and engineers to explore new possibilities at the intersection of performing arts and technology, 3 Evenings will take place at the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station in East London.
Known for her distinctive fictional worlds in which reality and fiction, and past and future intersect through meticulous historical research and speculative fiction, Kim further expands the universe of her acclaimed Delivery Dancer series with this new commission. Designed as a PC-based action-adventure game that audiences can play themselves, Delivery Dancer Reflex: Eternity follows multiple versions of the protagonist Ernst Mo as they compete for speed and efficiency across Asian metropolises and shopping malls, vying to become the ultimate winner of an annual tournament administered by the master algorithm Dancemaster and the transcendental superintelligence Beacon. Live gameplay will be relayed to screens throughout the venue at scheduled times each day. By allowing audiences to enter the fictional world and actively participate in shaping its narrative, the work extends Kim’s Delivery Dancer series into an interactive experience, while continuing her exploration of how technology shapes human mobility, labor, and individual agency.
Co-commissioned by Somerset House Studios, Canyon, Nieuwe Instituut, PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow, and ZKM, the new work will also broadcast online on 3ETV, a multi-channel TV station, through December 18. Meanwhile, Kim’s PH Express (2011) is also featured in the group exhibition The Unclassified, on view at the Korean Cultural Centre UK in London through December 31. Drawing on the British occupation of Geomundo Island in the late nineteenth century, the work critically reexamines Western-centric historical narratives and sheds light on the underlying geopolitical power relations that shaped them.
김아영의 인터랙티브 게임 신작 〈Delivery Dancer Reflex: Eternity〉이 10월 16일부터 18일까지 영국 런던의 서머셋 하우스에서 개최되는 《3 Evenings: Experiments in Performance and Technology》에서 최초 공개된다.
(PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow),
