Christine Sun Kim’s solo exhibition FOR EVER is on view at Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean through January 10, 2027. A major new site-specific commission, FOR EVER was created in response to the distinctive chapel-like architecture of Mudam’s Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Pavilion gallery.
The exhibition features four new large sculptural canvases, each depicting the elongated and repeated outlines of the word “forever” in American Sign Language (ASL). Serving as a monument to the longevity and resilience of Deaf culture and the Deaf community, FOR EVER unfolds through a series of sculptural canvases and a soundscape made in collaboration with musician Matt Karmil. Kim’s exhibition is a powerful testament to the fact that deaf people have always existed, and will continue to do so, eternally.
김 크리스틴 선의 개인전 《FOR EVER》가 룩셈부르크 현대미술관(Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean)에서 2027년 1월 10일까지 열리고 있다. 전시와 동명의 작업인 〈FOR EVER〉는 Mudam의 헨리 J. & 에르나 D. 레어 파빌리온 갤러리(Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Pavilion gallery)의 채플을 연상시키는 건축적 특징을 바탕으로 제작된 대규모 장소 특정적 커미션이다.
전시는 네 점의 대형 셰이프드 캔버스로 구성되며, 각 작품은 미국 수어로 표현한 “forever”의 길게 늘어나고 반복되는 형태를 담고 있다. 농문화와 농인 공동체의 지속성과 강인함을 기념하는 《FOR EVER》는 셰이프드 캔버스 연작과 뮤지션 맷 카밀(Matt Karmil)과 협업해 제작한 사운드스케이프를 함께 선보인다. 이번 전시는 농인들이 언제나 존재해왔고, 앞으로도 영원히 존재할 것이라는 메시지를 전한다.
