Ayoung Kim, who has garnered international acclaim for her innovative media art practice that employs fiction as a critical lens to interrogate the present, has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 CHANEL Next Prize. This year’s cohort of winners, comprising artists from a wide range of disciplines, includes visual artists Álvaro Urbano, Pan Daijing, Emeka Ogboh, and Pol Taburet; musician Ambrose Akinmusire; choreographers Andrea Peña and Marco da Silva Ferreira, fashion designer Bárbara Sánchez-Kane, and filmmaker Payal Kapadia.
CHANEL Next Prize is a biennial award that recognises contemporary artists who are redefining their disciplines. It reflects Chanel’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leading artistic voices by offering sustained, long-term support alongside an intensive two-year mentorship program. Each recipient receives €100,000 in unrestricted funding, intended to enable the realization of new projects without constraints. This year’s jury comprised Tate Modern International Art Curator Alvin Li, British Film Institute (BF) Chief Executive Officer Ben Roberts, Serpentine Galleries Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist, artist Cao Fei, and actress Tilda Swinton.
Yana Peel, President of Arts, Culture & Heritage at Chanel, commented as follows: “The artists are free to use the money as they wish. There are no restrictions. The idea is to give the recipients resources, time and space to extend their practice and relationships with their peers…Each winner is a trailblazer shaping the now and defining the next with creativity and audacity. Following their journeys will be nothing short of thrilling.”
Meanwhile, Ayoung Kim’s first solo exhibition in the United States Ayoung Kim: Delivery Dancer’s Codex, which has received critical acclaim from leading international publications including The New York Times, ARTnews, Artforum, and Frieze Magazine, is on view at MoMA PS1 through March 16. In addition, Kim will participate, alongside Kang Seung Lee and Woosung Lee, in a group exhibition Spectrosynthesis Seoul at Art Sonje Center from March 20 to June 28.

샤넬 넥스트 프라이즈가 각자의 분야를 재정의하는 동시대 예술가들을 발굴하고 기리기 위해 2021년에 설립하여 격년으로 수여하는 이 상은, 새로운 작품에 집중할 수 있는 지원금과 2년간의 멘토십 및 문화 파트너들과의 네트워킹 프로그램을 제공함으로써 주요한 예술적 목소리를 육성하고자 하는 취지를 담고 있다. 각 수상자는 제약 없이 새로운 프로젝트를 실현할 수 있도록 10만 유로의 지원금을 받게 된다. 올해 심사위원단은 테이트 모던 국제 미술 큐레이터 알빈 리(Alvin Li), 영국영화협회 최고경영자 벤 로버츠(Ben Roberts), 서펜타인 갤러리 예술감독 한스 울리히 오브리스트(Hans Ulrich Obrist), 작가 차오 페이(Cao Pei), 그리고 배우 틸다 스윈턴(Tilda Swinton)으로 구성되었다.
샤넬의 예술·문화·헤리티지 총괄인 야나 필(Yana Peel)은 다음과 같은 소감을 전했다. “예술가들은 이 상금을 제약 없이 원하는 대로 사용할 수 있습니다. 수상자들에게 자신의 작업과 동료들과의 관계를 확장할 수 있는 자원과 시간, 그리고 공간을 제공하는 것이 목적입니다. 각 수상자는 창의성과 대담함으로 현재를 만들어가고 다음을 정의하는 선구자들입니다. 이들의 여정을 지켜보는 일은 그야말로 짜릿한 경험이 될 것입니다.”
한편, 〈뉴욕타임즈〉, 〈아트뉴스〉, 〈아트포럼〉, 〈프리즈 매거진〉 등 세계적인 매체들로부터 호평을 받은 김아영의 미국 첫 개인전 《김아영: 딜리버리 댄서 코덱스》가 뉴욕현대미술관 PS1에서 3월 16일까지 열린다. 또한, 김아영 작가는 이강승, 이우성 작가와 함께 아트선재센터에서 열리는 대규모 그룹전 《스펙트로신테시스 서울(Spectrosynthesis Seoul)》에 3월 20일부터 6월 28일까지 참여한다.
