The exhibition catalogue for One after the Other, Minjung Kim’s solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai, is now published as an e-catalogue.
One after the Other, Kim’s third solo exhibition with Gallery Hyundai, explores the philosophical reflections on connectivity and unity arising from repetitive actions, as well as the inherent dualities and meditative flows within them. This e-catalog features major series including Zip, presented in Korea for the first time; the large-scale installation Traces, unveiled for the first time since its presentation in the Unlimited sector at Art Basel 2024; and key series such as Encounter, Predestination, and Firework, which contemplate notions of “connection” and “coexistence” between beings.
The catalogue also includes an essay by Alvin Li, curator at the Tate Modern, titled Minjung Kim: The Depth of Paper, which interprets the artist’s practice as a subtle interplay between East and West, and between traditional craft and contemporary art. This essay was originally written for Kim’s solo exhibition Mountain held in 2024 at Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, France. Additionally, the catalogue features previously unreleased excerpts from a promotional video interview conducted by Gallery Hyundai Director Minsoo Kim during a visit to the artist’s studio in Saint-Paul de Vence, offering an intimate glimpse into her thoughts and creative process.

갤러리현대와의 세 번째 개인전인 《One after the Other》는 반복적 행위에서 비롯되는 연결성과 통일성, 그 속에 내재된 이중성과 명상적 흐름에 대한 철학적 성찰을 담고 있다. 이번 E-카탈로그에는 국내 최초로 소개되는 〈Zip〉 연작을 비롯해, 2024년 아트바젤 언리미티드 섹터 출품 이후 처음 공개되는 대규모 설치작업 〈Traces〉, 그리고 존재 간의 ‘연결’과 ‘공존’을 사유하는 〈Encounter〉, 〈Predestination〉, 〈Firework〉 등 주요 연작이 수록되어 있다.
또한 작가의 작업 세계를 동양과 서양, 전통 공예와 현대미술 사이에서 펼쳐지는 미묘한 긴장과 교차로 해석한 영국 테이트모던 큐레이터 알빈 리(Alvin Li)의 평론 「김민정: 종이의 깊이」가 함께 실렸다. 이 글은 2024년 프랑스 남부 생폴 드 방스의 매그재단에서 열린 개인전 《Mountain》을 위해 집필된 것이다. 더불어 갤러리현대 김민수 디렉터가 작가의 생폴 드 방스 작업실에 방문하여 제작한 홍보 영상의 미공개 인터뷰 일부도 실려, 보다 내밀한 작가의 사유를 엿볼 수 있다.
