Tomás Saraceno 토마스 사라세노: Ancestral Futures

Tomás Saraceno’s major solo exhibition, Ancestral Futures, will be presented at Haus der Kunst in Munich through February 7, 2027. Bringing together art, architecture, and science, the exhibition offers an expansive view of Saraceno’s practice through two central strands of his long-term research: Aerocene and Arachnophilia. 

Extending throughout the building, the presentation includes air-fueled sculptures, shared multispecies habitats, and spatial environments that transform how visitors experience the museum. Initiated by Saraceno in 2015, Aerocene is an interdisciplinary community that explores fossil-free and emission-free modes of movement powered by the Sun, air, and wind. Arachnophilia builds on the artist’s long-term research into spiders and web structures, examining material, behavioral, and acoustic systems across species.

The exhibition also unveils El Santuario del Agua (The Sanctuary of Water), a major new co-commission for a permanent work of land art developed in close collaboration with the Indigenous communities of the Red Atacama network in Salinas Grandes, northern Argentina. 

토마스 사라세노의 대규모 개인전 《Ancestral Futures》가 독일 뮌헨의 하우스 데어 쿤스트에서 2027년 2월 7일까지 열리고 있다. 예술, 건축, 과학을 횡단해 온 작가의 작업 세계를 폭넓게 조망하는 이번 전시는 그의 오랜 연구의 두 축인 ‘에어로센(Aerocene)’과 ‘아라크노필리아(Arachnophilia)’를 한자리에 소개한다. 

전시장 전반에 걸쳐 공기의 힘으로 작동하는 조형물, 여러 생명 종이 함께 머무는 서식 환경, 관람객의 공간 경험을 변화시키는 대규모 설치가 펼쳐진다. 2015년 사라세노가 시작한 에어로센은 화석연료나 배터리 없이 태양과 공기, 바람의 힘으로 이동하는 방식을 연구하는 국제적 커뮤니티 프로젝트이다. 아라크노필리아는 거미와 거미줄에 대한 장기적인 연구를 바탕으로 서로 다른 종이 만들어내는 물질적, 행동적, 음향적 체계를 탐구한다.

이번 전시에서는 아르헨티나 북부 살리나스 그란데스의 레드 아타카마 네트워크에 속한 원주민 공동체와 긴밀히 협력해 추진한 영구적 대지미술 프로젝트 〈El Santuario del Agua(The Sanctuary of Water)〉도 처음 공개된다.
