The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) presents the ongoing collection exhibition MMCA Collection: Korean Contemporary Art, featuring works by Kim Whanki, Rhee Seundja, Quac Insik, Paik Nam June, Kim Guiline, Lee Ufan, Chung Sang-Hwa, Lee Kun-Yong, Kwak Duck-Jun, Park Hyunki, Seung Neung Kyung, Ik-Joong Kang, Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonho, and Ayoung Kim.
Drawn from MMCA’s collection, the exhibition is structured in six thematic sections: 'Abstraction: Novelty and Avant-garde,' 'Korean Experimental Art: Object, Time, Body,' 'Figuration and Realism,' 'Space of Hybridity: Pluralization and Globalization,' 'Conceptual Shifts: Between Object and Language,' and 'Reinterpreting Reality: Documentary and Fiction.' The exhibition offers an expansive view into the development of Korean contemporary art within its social and historical context, while simultaneously engaging with global art currents to highlight both the particularity and universality of Korean art.
In parallel, works by Kim Whanki, Rhee Seundja, Kim Guiline, Chung Sang-Hwa, Quac Insik, Lee Ufan, Ik-Joong Kang, Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonho, and Ayoung Kim are also on view in 55 YEARS: A Legacy of Modern & Contemporary Korean Art, Part II at Gallery Hyundai. The exhibition commemorates the gallery’s long-standing relationships with these seminal artists, who have become central figures in the narrative of Korean contemporary art history.
국립현대미술관에서 열리고 있는 상설전 《한국현대미술 하이라이트》에 김환기, 이성자, 곽인식, 백남준, 김기린, 정상화, 이우환, 정상화, 이건용, 곽덕준, 박현기, 성능경, 강익중, 문경원 & 전준호, 김아영의 작품이 소개되고 있다.
국립현대미술관의 소장품으로 구성되는 전시는 ‘추상: 새로움과 전위’, ‘한국실험미술: 사물ㆍ시간ㆍ신체’, ‘형상성과 현실주의’, ‘혼성의 공간: 다원화와 세계화’, ‘개념적 전환: 사물과 언어 사이’, ‘다큐멘터리ㆍ허구를 통한 현실 재인식’과 같이 총 6부로 나누어 소개된다. 한국의 사회적 상황 속에서 이뤄졌던 미술의 변화와 전개에 더불어 국제 미술의 흐름과의 관계와 한국현대미술의 특수성과 보편성을 동시에 살필 수 있는 자리이다.
또한, 갤러리현대와 오랜 인연을 이어가며 한국 현대미술사의 역사가 된 작가들을 소개하는 전시 《55주년: 한국 현대미술의 서사》 2부에서 김환기, 김기린, 이성자, 곽인식, 이우환, 강익중, 문경원, 전준호, 김아영의 작품이 소개되고 있다.
