Christine Sun Kim 김 크리스틴 선: E-catalogue

The e-catalogue for Christine Sun Kim’s solo exhibition Moon Mind has been released. Moon Mind marks Kim’s first gallery exhibition in Korea and her first solo presentation with Gallery Hyundai. Debuting her shaped canvas paintings for the first time, the exhibition brings together more than forty shaped canvas paintings and drawings. Kim’s practice studies how sound operates within society, addressing questions of sound, language, power, access, and social relations through a distinctive visual language. In Moon Mind, Kim continues these concerns while turning inward to her mind, memory, family, relationships with those around her, and her roots.

The e-catalogue features the works presented in the exhibition, including Kim’s shaped canvas paintings, along with installation views. It also includes “Walking into Mah-Uhm: The Mindscapes of Christine Sun Kim,” an essay by artist and educator Taeyoon Choi that offers a close reading of Kim’s practice and the exhibition.
 

김 크리스틴 선 개인전 《달 마음(Moon Mind)》의 E-카탈로그가 발간되었다. 《달 마음(Moon Mind)》은 작가의 국내 첫 갤러리 전시이자 갤러리현대와 함께하는 첫 개인전으로 세계 최초로 공개되는 셰이프드 캔버스(shaped canvas)와 더불어 드로잉 40여 점을 소개한다. 작가는 소리가 사회 안에서 어떻게 작동하는지를 탐구하며, 소리와 언어, 권력, 접근성, 사회적 관계의 문제를 시각 언어로 다루어 왔다. 김 크리스틴 선은 《달 마음》에서 앞선 문제의식을 유지하면서도 자신의 마음, 기억, 가족과 주변인들의 관계, 그리고 뿌리를 들여다본다. 

E-카탈로그에는 셰이프드 캔버스(shaped canvas) 페인팅을 비롯해 주요 연작, 작품 도판, 전경이 수록되어 있다. 또한 예술가이자 교육자인 최태윤의 평론 「마음속으로 걸어 들어가기: 김 크리스틴 선의 마음풍경(mindscape)」이 바라본 작가의 작업 세계와 이번 전시에 대한 글이 함께 담겼다.
