Christine Sun Kim

Christine Sun Kim (b. 1980) is an American artist based in Berlin whose work raises fundamental questions about sound, voice, and communication. Through drawing, performance, video, installation, and large-scale public works, she explores how sound operates socially, culturally, and politically, often informed by her experience as a Deaf person navigating a society structured around spoken language. Kim utilizes the body, American Sign Language (ASL), musical notation, written text, and infographics to visualize how meaning is transmitted, translated, and mediated across different modes of communication.

김 크리스틴 선(1980년생)은 베를린을 기반으로 활동하는 미국 출신의 작가로, 소리, 목소리, 그리고 소통에 대한 기존 인식에 근본적인 질문을 던지는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 드로잉, 퍼포먼스, 비디오, 설치, 그리고 대형 공공 작업에 이르기까지 폭넓은 매체를 아우르며, 특히 작가는 농인으로서 삶과 구어 중심의 사회 규범을 중심으로 소리가 사회적, 문화적, 정치적으로 작동하는 방식을 탐구해 왔다. 작가는 청인 중심의 구조 속에서 살아온 자신의 경험을 바탕으로, 신체, 미국 수어(ASL), 악보, 문자, 인포그래픽 등을 활용해 의미가 어떻게 다양한 소통 방식 속에서 전달되고 매개되는지를 시각화한다.
