Minjung Kim’s works are featured in the group exhibition Even on the Day when Waiting Ends, on view at Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art through October 26. Inspired by the eponymous poem by Kim Hyung-Young, the exhibition gathers works that reflect on the possibility of renewal in the wake of climate change driven by human activity, seen through the contemplative gaze of nature.
Over the years, Kim has drawn meditative sensibilities from the landscapes and forms of the natural world, rendering them in a delicate and precise visual language. This presentation includes two works from her Mountain series, in which the surge of waves against sheer cliffs is evoked through nuanced strata of ink washes; Nautilus (2023), inspired by the organic patterns and inherent order found in the chambered nautilus shell; and The Street (2016), which details the quiet mood of a rain-washed city street.
On August 27, Minjung Kim’s solo exhibition One after the Other will open at Gallery Hyundai. The exhibition will introduce the Zip series to Korea for the first time, featuring works that explore the interplay and harmony of two distinct elements through the zigzag layering of fire-burned hanji paper.
김민정의 작품이 경기도미술관에서 10월 26일까지 개최되는 단체전 《기다림이 끝나는 날에도》에 소개되고 있다. 시인 김형영의 동명 시에서 영감을 받아 기획된 이번 전시는, 인간이 초래한 기후 재난 이후의 회복을 ‘자연의 시선’으로 사유하는 작품들에 주목한다.
김민정은 자연의 풍경과 형상에서 명상적인 감각을 이끌어내고, 이를 섬세한 시각적 언어로 표현하는 작업을 이어왔다. 이번 전시에는 절벽에 부딪히는 파도의 형상을 먹의 옅고 짙은 층위로 시각화한 〈Mountain〉 연작 2점, 앵무조개의 자연적 구조에서 발견되는 유기적 패턴과 규칙에 착안한 〈Nautilus〉(2023), 그리고 비 오는 날 거리 풍경의 정서를 담은 〈The Street〉(2016)가 함께 전시된다.
오는 8월 27일, 갤러리현대에서 김민정의 개인전 《One after the Other》이 열린다. 이번 전시에서는 특히 불에 태워진 한지를 지그재그로 쌓아 올리며 두 개별적인 요소의 결합과 조화를 선보이는 〈Zip〉 연작이 국내에서 처음으로 소개될 예정이다.
