Gallery Hyundai is pleased to introduce a solo presentation of Ayoung Kim at Frieze London 2023 for the inaugural Artist-to-Artist section. Ayoung Kim is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice traverses across video, moving image, sound installation, VR (Virtual Reality), game engine simulations, and performance, along with fiction and text. Kim’s work creates multidimensional and fluid narratives, utilizing methods such as speculative fiction/fiction-making, worldbuilding, and mythmaking. The artist’s single-channel video work Delivery Dancer’s Sphere (2022), one of the centerpieces from her solo exhibition Syntax and Sorcery held at Gallery Hyundai in 2022, will be shown at Frieze London 2023. The work has also garnered Kim the Golden Nica from the Prix Ars Electronica 2023 in the New Animation Art category, making the artist its first-ever Korean awardee. Furthermore, the presentation includes Ghost Dancers A (2022) and Evening Peak Time Is Back (2022), which were also part of her solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai, as well as an abstract of Delivery Dancer Simulation (2023), a game documentation that expands upon the narrative of her video work.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Frieze London, which will take place from October 11 through 15 in The Regent’s Park, has announced a new initiative entitled Artist-to-Artist. The section invites eight leaders in the global art world (Olafur Eliasson, Tracey Emin, Simone Leigh, Wolfgang Tillmans, Alvaro Barrington, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Anthea Hamilton, and Haegue Yang) who are critically acclaimed not only for their contributions to pushing the boundaries of contemporary art but also for their support of others, to propose artists for solo presentations at Frieze London. Artist-to-Artist champions Frieze London’s longstanding commitment to artist-led projects and highlights the role of these eight artists as advocates for new voices at the fair. Ayoung Kim's solo presentation has been proposed by Haegue Yang.

갤러리현대는 프리즈 런던 2023의 새로운 섹션인 ‘아티스트-투-아티스트(Artist-to-Artist)’에서 김아영 작가의 솔로 부스를 선보인다. 시각 예술가 김아영은 영상, 무빙 이미지, 사운드 인스톨레이션, 가상현실 (VR), 게임 엔진 시뮬레이션, 퍼포먼스, 픽션, 그리고 텍스트까지 아우르는 다학제적 작업을 이어왔다. 그는 사변서사/픽션-만들기, 세계구축, 신화짓기 등의 다양한 방법론을 통해 다차원적이고 유동적인 내러티브를 창조해 낸다. 이번 프리즈 런던에 출품되는 김아영의 〈딜러버리 댄서의 구〉는 2022년 갤러리현대에서 개최한 개인전 《문법과 마법(Syntax and Sorcery)》의 주요작으로, 2023 프리 아르스 일렉트로니카(Prix Ars Electronica)의 뉴 애니메이션 아트 섹션에서 한국인 최초로 최고상인 골든 니카상(Golden Nica)을 수상했다. 또한, 갤러리현대 개인전에서 〈딜러버리 댄서의 구〉의 세계관을 확장하는 작업으로 소개되었던 〈고스트 댄서 A〉, 〈다시 돌아온 저녁 피크 타임〉와 〈딜리버리 댄서의 구〉의 세계관을 바탕으로 제작한 게임인 〈딜리버리 댄서의 구 시뮬레이션〉의 게임 다큐멘테이션이 함께 소개된다. 

프리즈 런던은 20주년을 기념하여 오는 10월 11일부터 10월 15일까지 런던 리젠트 파크(The Regent’s Park)에서 열리며, 새로운 섹션인 ‘아티스트-투-아티스트’를 공개한다. 본 섹션은 현대 미술의 범주를 확대해 왔을 뿐 아니라 타 예술인들을 적극적으로 지지하며 세계적으로 활약해 온 여덟 명의 저명한 작가(올라퍼 엘리아슨(Olafur Eliasson), 트레이시 에민(Tracey Emin), 시몬 리(Simone Leigh), 볼프강 틸만스(Wolfgang Tillmans), 알바로 베링턴(Alvaro Barrington), 리크리트 티라바니자(Rirkrit Tiravanija), 앤시아 해밀턴(Anthea Hamilton), 양혜규)를 초대하여 추천 작가를 노미네이트하도록 했다. 따라서 ‘아티스트-투-아티스트’는 작가주도형 프로젝트에 대한 프리즈 런던의 지속적인 관심과 지원을 의미하고 동시에, 초청된 작가의 신선한 시각을 조명하고자 한다. 김아영은 양혜규 작가에 의해 초청되었다.
