MOON Kyungwon & JEON Joonho’s solo exhibition Phantom Garden is currently on view in the XR Lab of the Ulsan Art Museum.
In this exhibition, the artistic duo introduces Phantom Garden (2024), a new work that aims to reconstruct Earth’s history, which has been traditionally centered around humans, and to offer an alternative perspective on climate change and environmental issues facing us today. Departing from a virtual story about new lifeforms tracking the footprints of the fallen humanity and the world of plants on Earth, Phantom Garden illustrates the transformations of the environment and the biodiversity on Earth. Partly like magnified fungal spores and partly reminiscent of a vast cosmic landscape like star clusters wandering in the universe, the moving images unfold on all four sides of the screens and multidimensional stereo in the XR Lab, captivating one with a powerful and immersive virtual experience. The exhibition runs through March 23, 2025.

작가 듀오는 이번 전시에서 그동안 인간을 중심으로 서술되었던 지구의 역사를 재구성하고 인류가 직면하고 있는 기후 변화, 환경 문제를 다각적 시각으로 관측하는 신작 〈팬텀 가든〉을 선보인다. 〈팬텀 가든〉은 인류가 멸망한 후 미지의 새로운 생명체가 지구를 방문하여 과거 인류의 발자취와 식물의 세계를 추적하는 가상의 이야기에서 출발하여 지구의 환경 변화와 다양한 생명들의 모습을 추상적이면서도 섬세하게 그려낸다. 고배율로 확대된 균류의 포자 또는, 우주를 떠도는 성단처럼 광대한 우주적 풍경을 연상시키는 확장현실 작품의 강렬함은 XR랩 전시장을 둘러싸고 있는 화면과 입체 음향을 통해 관객을 압도한다. 전시는 내년 3월 23일까지.
