Ik-Joong Kang’s retrospective exhibition, Journey Home: Ik-Joong Kang, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the integration of Cheongju City, will be on view at the Cheongju Museum of Art from July 4 to September 29, 2024. The exhibition features major works spanning over forty years of Cheongju-born artist Ik-Joong Kang‘s artistic practice, including three-inch canvases, text works, Samramansang, and the Moon Jar series.

Ik-Joong Kang has been conveying a message of hope for the near future by uniting and connecting diverse cultures, languages, and environments in his works. Concurrently, Kang, who received the Special Merit prize at the 47th Venice Biennale in 1997, is featured in Every Island is a Mountain, held in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The exhibition will be on view at Palazzo Malta – Ordine di Malta in Venice until September 8, 2024.

In September, Hanguel Wall, a 22-meter-tall large-scale project featuring sentences of wisdom from around the world, will be presented at the new Korean Culture Center in New York.
강익중의 개인전 《청주 가는 길: 강익중》이 청주시립미술관에서 7월 4일부터 9월 29일까지 열린다. 청주시립미술관 통합 청주시 출범 10주년을 기념하는 이번 전시는 청주 출생 작가인 강익중의 40여 년간에 활동을 망라하며, 3인치 캔버스 작업과 글자 작품, 〈삼라만상〉, 〈달항아리〉 시리즈 등의 작가의 대표적인 작품들이 소개된다.

강익중은 서로 다른 문화, 언어, 환경 등을 하나로 모아 연결하면서 가까운 미래를 위한 희망의 메시지를 작품으로 담아왔다. 1997년 제47회 베니스 비엔날레에 한국관 대표로 참가하여 특별상을 수상한 그는, 현재 베니스에 위치한 몰타기사단 수도원에서 9월 8일까지 열리는 제60회 베니스 비엔날레 한국관 30주년 특별전 《모든 섬은 산이다》에서 작품을 선보이고 있다.

오는 9월, 뉴욕한국문화원 신청사에서 강익중의 전 세계 지혜의 문장을 담은 높이 22m의 대규모 한글벽 프로젝트가 공개될 예정이다.
