Gallery Hyundai is delighted to announce the official launching of Minjung Kim’s collaboration with Dior, for the 7th edition of Lady Dior Art. Minjung Kim’s artworks of different series such as Story, The Street and Mountain are represented onto the iconic Lady Dior in meticulous detail. The exquisite details born at the tip of Kim’s finger tips with water and fire are recreated with the materials such as fur, beads, organza and fur. They will be available at all key stores worldwide from January 2023.
Minjung Kim's practice is a quest for beauty in serenity. Sharing, transmitting, discovering, contemplating; the Korean artist’s work is an invitation to explore oneself and the world, in a constant search for tranquillity. Out of the experimentation of her art is born a collective meditative action nourished by the effects of materials, transparency, and color gradations. Her repetitive, “minimal” aesthetic is illustrated by a superposition of collages that give life to abstract compositions. A poetic harmony that sings an ode to delicateness.
Kim utilizes incense fire to delicately burn the edges of hanji pieces and repetitively layers them in short and long strips or round shapes. This intense and yet meditative process results in an array of beautiful patterns with organic curvilinear lines that provide a sense of optical illusion. Water is another key element in her oeuvre as she delicately manipulates ink on hanji paper while simultanesouly embracing the natural rhythm of water. The collaboration between the artist’s brush and uncontrollable flow of water (ink and watercolor) create a beautiful scenery of the mountains.

김민정 작가는 향불을 활용해 수많은 한지 조각의 가장자리를 태우고 이를 다시 짧거나 긴 조각, 혹은 원형으로 겹겹이 쌓는 행위를 반복한다. 이러한 치열하면서도 명상적인 작업 과정은 착시 현상을 연상시키는 자연스러운 곡선들이 이루는 패턴의 집합체를 만들어 낸다. 물은 김민정의 작업 전반에 있어 또 다른 중요한 요소로, 작가는 세심하게 먹을 조율하는 동시에 자연적인 물의 율동을 담아낸다. 붓과 통제할 수 없는 물(먹과 수채)의 흐름은 조화를 이루며 아름다운 산의 전경을 화폭에 담아낸다.
