Ayoung Kim will become the subject of An Evening with Ayoung Kim at 7pm on April 22 at the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters of the Museum of Modern Art (hereafter the MoMA) in New York, as part of the institution’s long-running screening series Modern Mondays which builds upon the legacy of the MoMA’s Cineprobe (1968-2002) and Video Viewpoints (1978-2002) programs. Modern Mondays welcomes an international and intergenerational roster of artists, working at the forefront of moving-images, to share their work with an intimate audience at MoMA. Each evening presenting a unique opportunity for audiences to engage in dialogue with the featured artists, Modern Mondays is a platform for both emerging artists and trailblazing figures shaping the video and moving-image culture today. An Evening with Ayoung Kim highlights a selection of the artist’s work that combines video, moving image, game engine animation, and CGI into captivating whirlwinds of imagery and thought-provoking fictitious narratives. The screening of Kim’s iconic video works including Delivery Dancer’s Sphere (2022), Petrogenesis, Petra Genetrix (2019, 2021), and Porosity Valley 2: Tricksters' Plot (2019), will be followed by a post-screening talk where Kim will be in conversation with Sophie Cavoulacos, Associate Curator of the Department of Film.
Recently on April 16, Kim was announced as the recipient of the first-ever ACC Future Prize, a prestigious biennial award that honors an artist or collective demonstrating groundbreaking artistic thought and potential. ACC Future Prize aims to recognize and foster innovation in the arts, particularly in areas where various disciplines converge and merge. By celebrating creators who introduce innovative artistic expressions that project future values and possibilities, the ACC continues its commitment to enhancing the cultural landscape. The exhibition ACC Future Prize: Ayoung Kim will be presented at ACC Creation Space 1 from August 30, 2024, to February 16, 2025.

뉴욕의 대표적인 미술관 뉴욕현대미술관(MoMA)에서 오는 4월 22일 오후 7시, 김아영 작가의 영상 작품 3점의 솔로 스크리닝과 작가와의 대화 시간을 갖는 《김아영 작가와의 저녁》이 열린다. 《김아영 작가와의 저녁》은 MoMA의 유서 깊은 《Modern Mondays》 프로그램의 일환이다. 동기관의 《Cineprobe》(1968-2002), 《Video Viewpoints》(1978-2002) 프로그램들의 역사를 잇고, 영상이라는 매체의 새로운 가능성을 탐구하는 다양한 배경의 작가들이 미술관의 관객들과 긴밀한 대화를 나눌 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공한다. 제목에 걸맞게 프로그램이 주기적으로 진행되는 월요일 저녁 7시에 무빙 이미지에 대한 우리의 관념을 변화시키는 신진 작가부터 선구적 예술가들의 대표작들을 선보이며 관객이 작가와의 자유로운 담론을 통해 보다 깊은 유대를 쌓아나갈 수 있게 하는 프로그램이다.
《김아영 작가와의 저녁》은 지난 10년간 작가의 전방위적인 작업을 아우르는 사변적인 스토리텔링에 초점을 두며, 영상, 무빙 이미지, 게임 엔진 및 CGI 이미지를 접목하여 시각적으로 매혹적인 동시에 현실을 비추는 여러 가상의 내러티브를 선보인다. 작가의 대표적인 영상 작업 〈딜리버리 댄서의 구〉(2022), 〈페트로제네시스, 페트라 제네트릭스〉(2019, 2021), 〈다공성 계곡 2: 트릭스터 플롯〉(2019)이 상영될 예정이며, 상영회 이후 MoMA의 영상부 어소시에이트 큐레이터 소피 카불라코스(Sophie Cavoulacos)와의 대담을 가질 예정이다.

한편 김아영이 문화체육관광부 산하 국립아시아문화전당에서 개설한 첫 ‘ACC 미래상’에 선정되었다. ‘ACC 미래상’은 혁신적인 미래가치와 가능성을 확장한 창조적 예술 언어의 작가를 발굴하기 위해 제정한 격년제 예술과 과학기술 분야 수상제도이다. ‘ACC 미래상 2024’ 국제 심사위원회는 김아영 작가 선정에 이유에 대해 “중첩적이고 강력한 서사에 다층적인 시각적 요소를 집적시키는 김 작가의 독특한 작업 방식이 매우 인상적”이라고 밝혔다. ‘ACC 미래상 2024: 김아영’ 전시는 오는 8월 30일부터 2025년 2월 16일까지 ACC 복합전시 1관에서 열릴 예정이다.
