Ayoung Kim 김아영: TIME100 AI

Ayoung Kim has been named to the Thinkers category of TIME’s 2026 TIME100 AI list. TIME100 AI is divided into four categories—Leaders, Innovators, Shapers, and Thinkers—with the Thinkers category comprising scientists, writers, and artists who reflect on the implications of artificial intelligence for our lives and society and contribute to shaping critical discourse around it.

Andrew R. Chow, Correspondent from TIME noted “During the COVID pandemic, artist Ayoung Kim accompanied a delivery worker in Seoul as she raced around the city dropping off food and essential supplies. Kim was struck by the way that algorithms dictated their movements around the city. […] She turned her experiences into a multimedia art series, Delivery Dancer, which arrived at New York’s MoMA PS1 in the fall of 2025 and has cemented her as one of the art world’s fastest-rising stars. As Kim critiques algorithms, she uses generative AI extensively in her art to build images and videos. Her bold exploration of AI has made her a lightning rod among artists, collectors and critics.”

김아영이 TIME지가 선정한 ‘2026 TIME100 AI’의 ‘Thinkers’ 부문에 선정되었다. TIME100 AI는 Leaders, Innovators, Shapers, Thinkers 총 네 개 부문으로 구성되며, 이 중 Thinkers 부문은 인공지능이 우리의 삶과 사회에 미치는 영향을 성찰하고 이에 관한 비평적 담론을 형성해 나가는 과학자, 저술가, 예술가들로 구성된다.

TIME의 앤드루 R. 차우(Andrew R. Chow) 기자는 김아영에 대해 다음과 같이 소개했다. “코로나19 팬데믹 당시, 김아영은 서울 곳곳을 누비며 음식과 생필품을 배달하는 배달 노동자들와 동행했다. 작가는 알고리즘이 이들의 도시 내 이동 경로를 결정하는 방식에 주목했다. (…) 이러한 경험은 멀티미디어 작품 〈딜리버리 댄서〉 연작으로 이어졌으며, 2025년 가을 뉴욕 MoMA PS1 《Delivery Dancer Codex》 개인전에서 선보인 이후 김아영을 미술계에서 가장 빠르게 주목받는 작가 중 한 명으로 자리매김하게 했다. 김아영은 알고리즘을 비판적으로 탐구하는 동시에, 이미지와 영상을 구축하는 과정에서 생성형 AI를 활용한다.
