Ayoung Kim’s new work Dancer in the Mirror Field (2025), commissioned by M+ and Powerhouse Sydney, will screen nightly on the M+ Facade from 3 October to 28 December 2025, supported by Presenting Sponsor Julius Baer, before a 2026 presentation at Powerhouse.
The film centers on a delivery competition hosted by the “Delivery Dancer” platform, which crowns the dancer who completes delivery tasks with the most optimized movements and routes, reflecting on contemporary obsession with efficiency and optimization. The protagonist of the ongoing Delivery Dancer series (2022– ), Ernst Mo (an anagram of “monster”), appears in three expanded versions who engage in a thrilling pursuit across neon-lit streets of Hong Kong-like worlds and highly technological arenas inspired by sleek Asian shopping malls. Inspired by 1980s Hong Kong action films and the animated series Æon Flux (1991–95), the work combines motion capture, 3D game engines, and AI-generated imagery to create a new visual experience where technology and imagination intersect. Action choreographer Cha-i Kim, who has collaborated with Ayoung Kim on previous projects, choreographed the film’s action sequences. On 4 October, M+ will host a public talk with the two and the curator Sunny Cheung, discussing aspects of the production process.
김아영의 신작 〈거울미로 속 댄서〉(2025)가 오는 10월 3일부터 12월 28일까지 매일 밤 홍콩 M+ 미술관 파사드에서 상영된다. M+ 미술관과 시드니 파워하우스미술관의 공동 커미션으로 제작, 줄리우스 베어(Julius Baer)가 후원하는 이 작품은 2026년에는 시드니 파워하우스미술관에서도 전시될 예정이다.
“딜리버리 댄서” 플랫폼에 고용된 댄서들 중 가장 최적화된 움직임과 동선으로 배달 업무를 수행하는 승자를 가리는 경연대회를 중심으로, 사회의 효율성과 최적화에 대한 집착을 탐구한다. 〈딜리버리 댄서〉(2022–현재) 연작의 주인공 에른스트 모(Ernst Mo, ‘monster’의 아나그램)는 세 명으로 확장된 버전으로 등장해, 홍콩의 네온 거리와 아시아 도시들의 쇼핑몰에서 영감 받은 경기장을 배경으로 박진감 넘치는 추격전을 벌인다. 1980년대 홍콩 액션 영화와 애니메이션 시리즈 〈Æon Flux〉(1991–95)의 액션 장면들에서 영감을 받은 이 작품은 모션캡쳐·3D 게임엔진·생성형 AI를 결합해 기술과 상상력이 교차하는 새로운 시각적 경험을 선사한다. 김아영과 여러 차례 호흡을 맞춘 바 있는 김차이 무술감독이 작품의 액션 안무를 맡았으며, 10월 4일 M+에서 열리는 토크에서 작가와 함께 작품 제작 과정을 이야기할 예정이다.
