Lee Kang So’s retrospective Flowing Water, Ongoing Experiment is on view at Daegu Art Museum from September 9, 2025 to February 22, 2026. Encompassing the artist’s works of painting, sculpture, print, installation, drawing, and archive materials, this retrospective marks Lee’s first solo exhibition in 14 years at Daegu Art Museum since the inaugural special exhibition Emptiness 11-1-1 in 2011. It surveys Lee Kang-So’s artistic oeuvre via two axes of Gok-su-ji-yu and the experimental spirit.
The term ‘Gok-su-ji-yu’ refers to the traditional East Asian leisure culture of floating a cup of drink down a stream and composing a poem before the cup passes by, embodying a refined culture of spontaneous creation in harmony with nature. It reflects Lee Kang So’s philosophy of thought flowing naturally within the order of the universe. At the same time, the exhibition traces Lee’s practice as one of the leading figures of experimental art, spanning works from the 1970s to the present. At the end of Gallery 1, an archival section revisits the Daegu Contemporary Art Festival, a pioneering art event led by Lee in the 1970s that served as a catalyst for experimental art in Korea, thereby extending the exhibition’s significance.
이강소의 회화, 조각, 판화, 설치, 드로잉, 아카이브 등을 망라하는 회고전 《곡수지유: 실험은 계속된다》가 9월 9일부터 2026년 2월 22일까지 대구미술관에서 열리고 있다. 2011년 개관 특별전 《허 Emptiness 11-1-1》 이후 14년 만에 대구미술관에서 열리는 개인전으로 ‘곡수지유’와 ‘실험정신’이라는 두 축을 통해 이강소의 예술 세계를 조망한다.
곡수지유(曲水之遊)는 흐르는 물 위에 술잔을 띄우고, 잔이 지나가기 전에 즉흥적으로 시를 짓는 동양의 전통적 풍류 문화를 일컫는 표현으로, 자연의 질서 속에서 흐르듯 사유하는 작가의 예술관을 포괄한다. 또한, 실험미술을 대표하는 작가 중 하나인 이강소의 작업 세계에 대해 이번 전시는 현재의 시점으로부터 1970년대 작품까지 아우른다. 1 전시장 끝자락에는 1970년대 이강소가 주도한 실험미술 축제의 기폭제가 되었던 ‘대구현대미술제’를 재조명하는 아카이브 공간이 마련되어 전시의 의미를 확장한다.
