BMW Korea will unveil a collaborative project with the master of Korean contemporary art, Lee Kun-Yong at Frieze Seoul 2025, commemorating the 30th anniversary of BMW Korea and the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Car Collection. Lee, the first Korean artist selected for the BMW Art Car project, has developed this year’s collaboration under the theme “Inspiration that fills the moment.” Expanding on his iconic Bodyscape series, the artist reinterprets the BMW i7 as a “moving canvas,” abstractly embodying the precision and responsiveness between driver and automobile through an original wrapping design. The Art Car will be unveiled for the first time at the BMW booth at Frieze Seoul (C Hall, across from London Bagel Museum) on Wednesday, September 3, at 2PM, followed by a live performance of his seminal work 76-3 on Thursday, September 4, at 1PM, exploring the themes of “movement,” “time,” and “space.”
BMW Korea가 설립 30주년과 아트카 컬렉션 50주년을 기념해 한국 현대미술의 거장 이건용과 협업한 프로젝트를 프리즈 서울 2025에서 선보인다. 이건용은 한국인 최초로 BMW 아트카 작가로 선정되었으며, 올해 협업은 ‘순간을 채우는 영감’을 주제로 진행되었다. 작가는 대표 연작 〈바디스케이프(Bodyscape)〉를 확장해 BMW i7을 ‘움직이는 캔버스’로 재해석하고, 독창적인 래핑 디자인을 통해 운전자와 자동차 사이의 정밀성과 반응성을 추상적으로 구현했다. 아트카는 9월 3일(수) 오후 2시 프리즈 서울 BMW 부스(C Hall 런던베이글뮤지엄 건너편)에서 최초 공개되며, 이어 9월 4일(목) 오후 1시에는 ‘이동’, ‘시간’, ‘공간’을 주제로 한 대표 연작 〈76-3〉을 라이브 퍼포먼스로 선보인다.
