Yoo Geun-Taek is participating in the group exhibition City as Layers, Gap as Space, Texture as Art, organized by the Goyang Cultural Foundation as part of the Goyang Art Festival. On view through June 11, the exhibition centers on the identity of the city of Goyang and explores the relationships between memory and place, and between art and society, through the works of contemporary artists.

The exhibition features Yoo Geun-Taek’s representative works from the early 2000s, a period when the artist was living in Ilsan. These works depict scenes from everyday undefinedurban life—such as apartment complexes, roads, parks, and subways—that the artist closely observed at the time. Offering a valuable opportunity to revisit Yoo Geun-Taek’s early practice, the exhibition highlights his experimental practice to bridge traditions of East Asia painting with contemporary themes and materials.

유근택 작가의 2000년대 초반 작업들을 살펴볼 수 있는, 고양문화재단이 주최하고 고양미술축제의 일환으로 열리는 전시《겹의 도시, 틈의 공간, 결의 예술》이 6월 11일까지 진행된다. 전시는 고양이라는 도시의 정체성을 중심으로 기억과 장소, 미술과 사회의 관계를 동시대 작가들의 작업으로 조망한다. 

전시에서 선보이는 유근택의 작품은 작가가 2000년대 초반까지 일산에서 거주하며 완성한 작업의 대표작들이다. 당시 작가가 마주하고 관찰한 아파트 단지, 도로, 공원, 지하철 등 도시의 일상적 환경과 장면들이 담겼다. 한국 동양화의 전통과 현대적 주제, 소재를 접목하는 실험적인 작업을 통해 독창적인 세계를 구축하는 유근택의 2000년대 작업을 살필 수 있는 기회이다.
