Yang Jung Uk has been selected as the recipient of the Korea Artist Prize 2024, an honor co-hosted by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) and the SBS Foundation.
For the Korea Artist Prize 2024, Yang presents his latest large-scale works, Someone I Know, in His Garden I've Never Seen (2024) and A Cherishing Heart (2024), along with Temporary Map (2024) and Ardent Record (2024), which embody the methodology of “technology originating from sincerity." The artist curated the exhibition so that viewers blended into the landscape, allowing them to become intertwined with the scenes beyond the artwork. The stories within the artist-produced booklets placed throughout the exhibition resonate with the works and show the artist’s humane perspective imbued in each work, conveying the meaning of life in the gestures of people striving to withstand the difficulties of day-to-day living.
The judging committee acknowledged Yang's work for its emotional depth and strength, art’s ability to provide solace, and its profoundly human portrayal of everyday simplicity intertwined with dreamlike landscapes. The exhibition runs until March 23, 2025.

양정욱은 《올해의 작가상 2024》에서 대규모 신작 〈아는 사람의 모르는 밭에서〉(2024), 〈서로 아껴주는 마음〉(2024)에 더해, “기술은 정성으로부터 비롯한다”라는 작가의 방법론을 담은 〈일시적인 약도〉(2024), 〈기억하려는 사람의 그림〉(2024)를 선보이고 있다. 작가는 사람들이 어우러지고 그 풍경을 보는 사람들이 작품 너머로 겹칠 수 있도록 전시를 구성했다. 작품들과 전시장에 놓인 작가가 제작한 책자 속 이야기들은 서로 공명하며 각 작품에 담긴 작가의 인간적인 시선을 드러내고, 고단한 일상을 견디며 부단히 애쓰는 사람들의 몸짓에 깃든 삶의 의미와 감각을 전달한다.
심사위원단은 양정욱의 작업에 대해 “작업에서 느껴지는 정서와 힘”, “위로를 전하는 예술의 능력”, “양정욱은 지극히 소박한 일상의 모습과 아름다운 꿈의 풍경을 결합하여 가장 인간적인 세계를 그린다”와 같은 심사평을 전했다. 전시는 3월 23일까지
