Quiet Resonance, Lee Ufan’s first solo exhibition in Australia, is on display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney until August 31, 2025. The exhibition space, personally designed by the artist, features four paintings created between 2022 and 2024, as well as four new sculptures that are a continuation of his Relatum series, which Lee began in the late 1960s.
Inspired by his time in Sydney, Lee has created two new works to accompany his exhibition. An impromptu wall drawing titled Drawing – open space (2024) within the Quiet Resonance exhibition and a gathering of rocks, Relatum – stone family (2024), installed on the grass outside Naala Nura. Once the rocks were carefully placed, Lee painted one small rock blue and another red, an innovation initiated as part of his major retrospective at the Berlin National Gallery earlier in 2024.
이우환 작가의 첫 호주 개인전 《Quiet Resonance》가 시드니에 위치한 뉴사우스웨일스 주립 미술관(Art Gallery of New South Wales)에서 2025년 8월 31일까지 열리고 있다. 특히 전시 공간을 작가가 직접 디자인한 이번 전시에는 2022년에서 2024년 사이에 제작된 회화 4점과 1960년대 후반에 시작된 〈관계항〉 시리즈의 연장선에 해당하는 새로운 조각 4점을 전시한다.
전시에 소개되는 〈Drawing – open space〉(2024)과 〈Relatum – stone family〉(2024)는 이우환이 시드니에서 보낸 시간을 통해 영감을 받아 탄생한 작품이다. 〈Drawing – open space〉는 전시 공간 내에서 즉흥적으로 그린 벽화이며, 다른 하나는 미술관의 나라 누라(Naala Nura) 풀밭에 설치한 바위 조각 작품 〈Relatum – stone family〉이다. 작가는 바위들을 신중하게 배치된 후, 한 쪽 작은 바위는 파란색으로, 다른 하나는 빨간색으로 칠했다. 이 작업은 이우환이 올해 초 베를린 국립미술관에서 열린 대규모 회고전의 일환으로 시작한 프로젝트이다.
