Ryan Gander’s first retrospective exhibition in Europe, Grunts, hoots, whimpers, barks and screams, will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Helga de Alvear in Spain from December 5, 2024, to April 25, 2025. This major retrospective brings together works made over the past 20 years, exploring various themes such as value, authorship, mortality, language, and coincidence. In addition to the artist’s installations on diverse themes that span across sculpture, film, writing, graphic design, installation, and performance, the exhibition will also feature new works specially created for the Museum of Contemporary Art Helga de Alvear.
As part of the exhibition, a public art project The Find will take place on December 6 and 7, 2024, where thousands of coins will be hidden throughout the city of Cáceres for the participants to find in a "treasure hunt." The hidden coins are artworks created by the artist, symbolizing wisdom by allowing luck to decide the outcome through a game of heads or tails.
라이언 갠더의 첫 유럽 회고전 《Grunts, hoots, whimpers, barks and screams》가 스페인의 엘가 데 알베아르 현대미술관에서 12월 5일부터 2025년 4월 25일까지 열린다. 이번 대규모 회고전은 초기작부터 20여 년간 가치, 저자성, 죽음, 언어, 우연성 등 다양한 영역을 탐구한 작가 작업 전반을 집약적으로 아우른다. 조각, 영화, 글쓰기, 그래픽 디자인, 설치미술, 공연 등 다양한 형태로 작업 세계를 펼쳐온 작가의 다양한 주제의 설치작뿐만 아니라 엘가 데 알베아르 현대미술관을 위해 특별히 제작한 신작도 선보일 예정이다.
전시 연계 공공미술 프로젝트로 12월 6일과 7일 양일간 카세레스 곳곳에 수천 개의 동전을 놓고 관객들과 함께 찾는 〈The Find〉, 일명 “보물찾기”가 진행된다. 숨겨진 동전은 작가가 제작한 작품으로 동전을 던져 결정을 운에 맡기는 지혜를 은유한다.
