Ik-Joong Kang has been invited as the first Korean artist to participate in Forever Is Now, the annual international art exhibition held in front of the Giza Pyramids in Egypt. His large-scale installation, Four Temples (2024), will be on display from October 24 to November 16, 2024.
Forever Is Now brings together 12 distinguished international artists, each contributing their unique voice to a collective dialogue that transcends time and cultural boundaries. The exhibition explores the theme of art as a bridge between the past and the present, uncovering hidden meanings embedded in the ordinary, much like archaeology. Four Temples embodies the theme of “harmony,” a central concept in Kang’s artistic vision. The outer walls of the work feature the Korean folk song “Arirang” written in Hangeul, English, Arabic, and Hieroglyphs, while the interior is composed of 5,016 drawings by people from around the world.
Meanwhile, on September 26, Kang’s 22-meter tall Hanguel Wall project will be unveiled at the new Korean Culture Center in New York, and his retrospective exhibition at the Cheongju Museum of Art, Journey Home: Ik-Joong Kang will conclude on September 29, 2024.

12명의 국제 예술가가 시간과 문화적 경계를 초월해 각자의 독특한 목소리를 더한 《포에버 이즈 나우(FIN: Forever Is Now》는 예술이 과거와 현재를 잇는 매개가 되는 것을 주제로 삼아, 고고학이 그렇듯 평범한 것에 내재된 숨겨진 의미를 살핀다. 〈네 개의 신전(Four Temples)〉은 ‘아리랑’이 한글, 영어, 아랍어, 상형문자로 적힌 작품 외벽과 전 세계 사람들이 그린 5,016개의 그림으로 형성된 내부를 통해 강익중의 작품 세계의 주요한 ‘화합’을 보여준다.
한편, 9월 26일 뉴욕한국문화원 신청사에서 작가의 높이 22m의 한글벽 프로젝트가 공개될 예정이다. 청주시립미술관에서 열리고 있는 개인전 《청주 가는 길: 강익중》은 9월 29일 막을 내린다.
