Yang Jung Uk’s children’s exhibition, A Child Embraces a Child, is on view at the Ulsan Art Museum. Yang reconstructs everyday aspects of life that are easily overlooked into a cohesive story. These narratives are then abstractly translated into various forms using objects, wood, and threads, along with elements of sound, light, or motion. A Child Embraces a Child encapsulates the notion that adults are simply grown-up children and that each generation supports the next through life‘s journey. The exhibition presents Yang’s six selected works and poems that he wrote. The philosophical narrative of the exhibition, implying a life where adults and children embrace each other, transcends age boundaries to resonate across diverse generations. Yang will give a lecture about the exhibition, A Child Embraces a Child, at the museum on July 20.
Yang Jung Uk, selected as one of the four finalists for the Korea Artist Prize 2024, will present works at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) in October 2024.
양정욱 작가의 어린이 기획전시 《아이는 아이를 안고》가 울산시립미술관에서 열리고 있다. 양정욱은 일상에서 쉬이 지나치는 삶의 면면을 하나의 이야기로 재구성하고 추상적인 형태로 갖춰 각종 오브제와 목재, 실 등에 소리와 빛, 또는 움직임이 동반되는 조형물로 발전시켜 왔다. 《아이는 아이를 안고》는 어른은 조금 큰 아이일 뿐이며, ‘조금 큰 아이가 조금 더 작은 아이를 안고 삶을 살아감’을 주제로 6점의 작품과 작가가 직접 쓴 시가 나란히 소개된다. 어른과 아이가 서로 번갈아 안고 안기기를 반복하며 살아가는 삶을 암시하는 이번 전시의 철학적 서사는, 단순히 어린 아이에 국한되지 않고 다양한 세대를 아우르며 큰 울림을 선사한다. 7월 20일 오후 2시, 울산시립미술관에서 양정욱 작가의 《아이는 아이를 안고》 연계 강연이 있을 예정이다.
양정욱 작가는 국립현대미술관 《올해의 작가상 2024》의 후원 작가 4인에 선정되어 내년 10월에 전시를 선보일 예정이다.
