The exhibition catalog for Undeclared Fields, Kim Guiline’s solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai, is now published.

Undeclared Fields is an exhibition that aims to provide new insights into the remarkable life of Kim Guiline. He is known as the first Korean painter to venture into the realm of monochrome paintings, an unprecedented artistic expression he began with Visible, Invisible in 1970 and continued to refine throughout his lifetime. The catalog commences with a preface by HyungTeh Do, the president of Gallery Hyundai, followed by an essay from Simon Morley, a British painter and author of "The Simple Truth: The Monochrome in Modern Art." The catalog features 30 representative canvas works, each a testament to his unique artistic practice from the 1970s and 2000s. It also unveils the Inside, Outside series, a collection of his oil paintings on various paper materials, including traditional Korean hanji paper, which was showcased at Undeclared Fields for the first time. The catalog further enriches the experience with installation views of the exhibition, archival materials documenting the artist's past exhibitions, and a poem handwritten by the artist on manuscript paper from 1965, which offer a rare and privileged glimpse into Kim’s life, artistic journey, and a fresh perspective on his paintings as poetry depicted on canvas.

김기린의 개인전 《무언의 영역》을 기념한 도록이 발간되었다.

《무언의 영역》은 작가가 1970년 〈보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것〉 연작을 발표하며 한국 작가로는 최초로 모노크롬 회화를 선보인 후, 평생에 걸쳐 특유의 조형 언어를 발전시킨, 남달랐던 생애를 회고하며 기획된 전시이다. 도록에는 갤러리현대 도형태 부회장의 추천사를 시작으로, 영국 출신의 화가이자 『모노크롬: 이해할 수 없고 짜증나는, 혹은 명백하게 단순한(The Simple Truth: The Monochrome in Modern Art)』의 저자인 사이먼 몰리(Simon Morley)의 에세이 「무언의 메시지」가 수록되었다. 또한, 1970년대부터 2000년대 근작까지 작가의 예술 세계를 아우르는 대표적인 캔버스 작품 30여 점과 이번 전시를 통해 최초로 공개된 한지를 비롯한 다양한 재질의 종이에 유화물감을 사용한 〈안과 밖〉 연작, 전시 전경 화보, 작가의 과거 전시를 기록한 아카이브 자료, 작가가 1965년에 원고지에 자필로 쓴 시 등이 함께 실렸다. 이를 통해 김기린의 생애, 작품 세계, 그의 회화를 화면 위에 그려진 시라는 새로운 시선 등을 보다 면밀히 살 필 수 있도록 구성했다.
