Yoo Geun-Taek is participating in Drawing, Portraying the Philosophy of Life, a group exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Seoul Olympic Museum of Art. The exhibition aims to offer a deeper understanding of the characteristics of drawing and provide profound reflections on life in an era driven by capital and trends, showcasing works that reflect the distinct worldviews of the artists.
Yoo Geun-Taek presents over 80 drawings from the Another Today Series (2021–2022). The artist mailed these drawings to his father, who was nearing the end of his life during the COVID-19 pandemic, to have daily conversations with him when visits to nursing homes were prohibited. This series presents diverse landscapes imbued with the transience of existence and disappearance. The exhibition also features some of the artist‘s most iconic series, including Fountain, which alludes to creation and extinction, and Spring – The Beginning of the World, a surreal landscape where everyday objects intertwine with the artist’s key motifs growing from the ground. The exhibition runs through August 25, 2024. Concurrently, Yoo Geun-Taek‘s solo exhibition, Yoo Geun-Taek: One, but all, is on view at the Seongbuk Museum of Art until June 23, 2024.
유근택의 작품을 소마미술관 개관 20주년 기념 특별전 《드로잉, 삶의 철학을 그리다》에서 만나볼 수 있다. 《드로잉, 삶의 철학을 그리다》는 드로잉의 장르적 특성에 대한 깊이 있는 이해와 더불어 작가들의 세계관이 반영된 작품들을 통해 자본과 유행을 좇는 현시대에 삶에 대한 진중하고 깊이 있는 성찰을 제안하고자 기획되었다.

유근택의 〈또 다른 오늘〉은 코로나 팬데믹이었던 2021년부터 2022년 사이, 요양병원의 면회가 금지된 상황에서 임종을 앞둔 아버지에게 작가가 매일같이 보냈던 드로잉 80여 점을 엮은 작업이다. 인간의 존재, 생명, 소멸의 시간성이 내재된 찬란하고 다채로운 풍경 속을 선사한다. 작가의 대표적인 연작이자 생성과 소멸을 암시하는 〈분수〉와 작가의 일상적 오브제와 연작들 속 주요 모티프가 새싹처럼 돋아나 회오리를 이루는 초현실적인 장면을 담은 〈봄-세상의 시작〉 등이 함께 소개되고 있다. 전시는 8월 25일까지. 한편, 유근택의 개인전 《유근택: 오직 한 사람》이 성북구립미술관에서 6월 23일까지 열리고 있다.
