Sorol Art Museum presents In Dialog: Chung Sang-Hwa, a solo exhibition of Chung Sang-Hwa, from May 4 to August 25, 2024. In Dialog is the second in a series designed to connect international and Korean art, and follows the first project, which brought together the artists Lucio Fontana and Quac Insik. In Dialog: Chung Sang-Hwa illuminates the refined white paintings created by Chung from the 1970s to the 2010s, staging an encounter between his body of work and that of Agnes Martin.

Having spent much of his life in Japan and France, Chung was one of the leading abstract painters in Korean contemporary art, and actively engaged in the avant-garde and rebellious artistic experimentation of the 1960s. During his lengthy sojourns in Japan and France, he was involved in the various vanguard movements of the contemporary art scene. By the 1970s, he had developed the white geometric abstractions that distilled and concentrated his oeuvre on canvas. The exhibition presents thirteen of his major works from the 1970s.

정상화의 개인전 《In Dialog: 정상화》가 강릉의 솔올미술관에서 5월 4일부터 8월 25일까지 열린다. ‘세계의 미술과 한국미술을 연결’하는 것을 주요한 정체성으로 삼는 솔올미술관의 두 번째 프로젝트로, 지난 루치오 폰타나와 곽인식의 개인전에 이어 이번에는 아그네스 마틴과 정상화의 전시를 함께 개최한다. 《In Dialog: 정상화》는 1970년대부터 2010년대까지 정상화가 창작한 정제된 백색 회화를 조명한다.

정상화는 한국 현대미술의 추상회화를 대표하는 작가로서 1960년대 전위적이고 저항적인 미술 실험에 적극 동참했다. 오랜 기간 일본과 프랑스에서 활동하며 현대미술의 최전선에서 벌어지는 움직임을 직접 경험한 그는 1970년대 접어들어 자신의 작업 세계가 집약적으로 농축된 백색의 기하학적 추상을 화면 위에 전개해 나갔다. 《In Dialog: 정상화》에는 1970년대부터 전개된 정상화의 주요작 13점이 소개된다.
