Jin Han Lee’s latest and major works are currently on view in the group exhibition Drop Scene at Chapter New York. The exhibition highlights five artists who transform a single picture plane into a three-dimensional space, constructing storytelling through superimposed and often divergent actions.

Jin Han Lee uses painting as a space where her personal language collides with the universal language, capturing a myriad of experiences and thoughts that cannot be fully expressed in verbal language alone. Her painting Untitled (Orange Moon and Magenta Sea), inspired by the novel The Private Life of Plants (2015) by Lee Seung-U, imagines two heartbroken lovers yearning for each other in a dream, completing a fantastical scene. Two Readers in the Moon, Lee’s latest work, starts from her own interpretation of the common expression ”on the same page.“ In contrast to the original meaning, the work constructs a motif through two lovers reading a single page under a tree while one gazes away with a bored expression. The exhibition runs until February 10th.

회화를 사적 언어가 세상의 언어와 충돌하는 공간으로 삼는 이진한은 언어만으로 표현하는데 한계가 있는 수많은 경험과 사고를 하나의 공간에 포착하는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 〈Untitled (Orange Moon and Magenta Sea)〉는 이승우의 『식물들의 사생활』(2015)에서 영감을 받아 꿈속에서 서로를 그리워하는 연인을 상상하며 환상적인 화면을 완성했다. 신작 〈Two Readers in the Moon〉은 ‘같은 생각이다(on the same page)’라는 표현에 대한 작가의 해석에서 시작되어 이와는 대조적으로 나무 아래서 같은 책의 같은 페이지를 보고 있음에도 불구하고 한 사람은 지루한 표정으로 다른 곳을 응시하는 연인의 모습을 모티프로 환상적인 화면을 구축했다. 전시는 2월 10일까지.
