Abstract Gestures from Female Painters at New Spring Project, featuring works by Yun-Hee Toh, opens today and runs until 14 February. Abstract Gestures from Female Painters is a group exhibition of 7 female abstract painters: Koo Jiyoon, Meeyoung Kim, Keem Jiyoung, Yun-Hee Toh, Hyungji Park, Je Yeoran, and Wook-kyung Choi. This exhibition aims to understand the value of abstract art, which conveys visual beauty through the free composition of purely formal elements.
“My work is a process in search of the hidden beauty behind phenomena,” the artist has said. Indeed, she uses her exquisite pictorial language to capture things that are concealed from the eyes or that exist hidden on the other side of the phenomena we see: fragments and secret corners of unfamiliar lives, or sides that remain obscured. A large painting created in Toh’s Berlin studio and 3 pieces of most recent works will be on display. New Spring Project will host an artist talk with Toh on 27 January at 2pm.
도윤희 작가의 신작과 주요작이 소개되는 뉴스프링프로젝트 《Abstract Gestures from Female Painters》 전이 오늘부터 2월 14일까지 열린다. 《Abstract Gestures from Female Painters》은 7인의 여성 추상 작가들의 작품을 선보이는 자리로 구지윤, 김미영, 김지영, 도윤희, 박형지, 제여란, 최욱경의 작품을 통해 순수 조형 요소의 자유로운 구성과 더불어 시각적 아름다움을 전하는 추상 예술의 가치를 살핀다.
“나의 작업은, 현상의 배후에 숨겨져 있는 아름다움을 찾아내는 일이다.”라는 말처럼, 도윤희는 눈에 띄지 않고 숨겨져 있거나, 낯선 삶의 파편과 구석, 가려진 뒷면, 즉 우리가 볼 수 있는 어떤 현상 이면에 숨겨져 있는 것들을 섬세한 회화언어로 포착해 왔다. 이번 전시에는 작가가 베를린 스튜디오에서 작업했던 대작과 함께 신작 3점이 소개된다. 1월 27일(토) 오후 2시부터 뉴스프링프로젝트에서 도윤희 작가가 참여하는 아티스트 토크가 열릴 예정이다.
