The critically acclaimed Korean contemporary master Lee Kang-So is currently the subject of a solo exhibition eponymously titled Lee Kang-So : Wind / Flow at Philadelphia’s Locks Gallery through November 30. A collaborative project between Gallery Hyundai and Locks Gallery, this exhibition features 16 paintings and sculptures that are prime examples of Lee’s continuous experimentation with materials and endeavor to expand his artistic vocabularies. On view at the gallery are signature pieces from a range of serial works including Serenity, the artist’s new body of paintings titled The Wind Blows, and sculptures from the Becoming series.
Concurrently, seminal works of Lee from the 1970s are included in the group exhibition Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s–1970s at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, providing a rare experience for viewers to witness Lee’s unique artistic trajectory across the American Northeast.
한국 현대미술의 거장 이강소 작가의 개인전 《Lee Kang-So : Wind / Flow》가 필라델피아의 락스(Locks) 갤러리에서 11월 30일까지 열리고 있다. 갤러리현대와 락스 갤러리의 협업으로 기획된 이번 전시에서는 이강소의 신작 회화인 〈바람이 분다(The Wind Blows)〉와 〈청명(Serenity)〉, 조각 작품인 〈비커밍(Becoming)〉 등 다양한 매체를 통해 작품 세계를 확장, 실험해온 작가의 주요 회화와 조각 작품이 16점이 소개되고 있다.
한편 뉴욕 구겐하임미술관의 전시 《Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s–1970s》에서 이강소 작가의 1970년대 주요 작품이 소개되고 있어, 미국 내에서 작가의 작품 연대기를 살필 좋은 기회이다.
