Tomás Saraceno’s solo exhibition TOMÁS SARACENO: OCEANS OF AIR is on view at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona). Saraceno calls attention to how the humans of the Capitalocene have caused changes on the Earth – the habitat of countless organisms. Centering around the main theme – air, this exhibition reveals the intimate interconnectedness of art, our environment, and contemporary life through a variety of multidisciplinary and multisensory works. The displayed works include: Arachnophilia  –  an international community project on the research of spiders and webs that the artist has been working on for more than a decade, Aerosolar sculptures, derived from planetary inspirations, minute particles of polluted air from the skies of Mumbai, air quality samples from across Australia, dust from the museum, radio waves streamed from Argentina, radio frequencies generated by meteoroids, radio frequencies generated by meteoroids, recorded from the roof of the artist’s Berlin studio, and the leaves of Tasmania’s only deciduous native tree. Saraceno illustrates influences the humans of the Capitalocene have on the ecosystem from artistic, cultural, and ecological viewpoints as well as from a perspective of a human as an individual habitant of the Earth. The exhibition runs until July 24, 2023.

토마스 사라세노의 개인전 《TOMÁS SARACENO: OCEANS OF AIR》가 모나미술관(Mona)에서 전시 중이다. 사라세노는 동시대의 자본세(Capitalocene)를 살아가는 인간들이 많은 생명의 삶의 터전인 지구에 야기한 변화를 되짚는다. ‘공기’를 주제로 하는 이번 전시는 작가의 다양한 다학문적, 다감각적 작품들을 통해 예술, 환경, 그리고 현대사회 간의 긴밀한 연관성을 보여준다. 작가가 십 년 넘게 진행해 온 거미와 거미줄의 연구에 관한 국제적인 커뮤니티 프로젝트인 아라크노필리아(Arachnopilia) 작업, 각종 행성에서 영감을 받은 에어로솔라(Aerosolar) 조각, 뭄바이의 하늘에서 채취한 오염된 공기의 입자, 호주 전역에서 수집된 공기의 샘플, 미술관 내 먼지, 아르헨티나에서부터 흘러나오는 전파, 작가의 베를린 스튜디오 옥상에서 녹음된 유성체들로부터 생성되는 무선주파수, 그리고 태즈메이니아의 유일한 낙엽성 자생식물에서 떨어진 낙엽까지. 작가는 자본세의 인간이 생태계에 미치는 영향을 예술적, 문화적, 생태학적, 그리고 지구에 서식하는 한 인간으로서의 관점에서 풀어낸다. 전시는 7월 24일까지.
