Lee Kang-So’s representative painting series Serenity is on view at the special exhibition Colorful Korean Painting - From Harmony to Purification at Artspace3. The exhibition is curated by Sang-yong Shim, the professor of art history at Seoul National University, shedding light on eight artists who have broadened the aesthetic sphere through constructing their own artistic world in the midst of unstable socio-economic circumstances in the 1950s in Korea. 

Lee Kang-So described the Serenity series as follows: “When I make a brushstroke while maintaining a pure, clear mind-set, I will be able to share the ambience of ‘serenity’ with the viewers.” The new paintings Serenity-221232, Serenity-221244 and Serenity-221252, featured in the exhibition, convey the harmony of liberty and ephemerality that express condensed energy and infinite imagination through brushstrokes on the multihued background, ultimately presenting the vibrant pictorial planes to the viewers.

이강소 작가의 대표적 회화 연작 〈청명〉을 아트스페이스3에서 열리는 기획전 《컬러풀 한국 회화- 조화(調和)에서 정화(淨化)까지》에서 만나볼 수 있다. 《컬러풀 한국 회화- 조화(調和)에서 정화(淨化)까지》는 1950년대 이후 불안정했던 사회 속에서 각기 다른 독창적인 작품 세계를 구축하고, 고유한 미학적 지평을 넓혀온 8명의 작가를 새롭게 조명하고자 서울대학교 미대의 심상용 교수가 기획한 전시이다.

이강소는 〈청명〉 연작에 대해 다음과 같이 말한 바 있다. “내가 밝고 맑은 정신 상태를 유지하면서 붓질을 했을 때, 그것을 보는 관객도 ‘청명’한 기운을 공유할 수 있을 것.” 특히 이번에 소개되는 신작 〈청명-221232〉, 〈청명-221244〉, 〈청명-221252〉은 이전에 볼 수 없었던 다양한 색의 스펙트럼의 바탕에 몇 번의 붓질을 남겨 응축된 에너지와 무한한 상상력을 표출하는 자율성과 일회성의 조화, 나아가 생기 넘치는 화면을 선사한다. 전시는 4월 15일까지.
