Kenny Scharf’s large-scale interactive installation work, Cosmic Cavern: #42 Bestest Ever is featured in Saatchi Gallery’s BEYOND THE STREETS LONDON. The exhibition features over 100 international artists who have been developing their own unique artistic worlds through graffiti and street art.
Kenny Scharf, who brings science fiction and cartoons together with graffiti murals, addresses and unfolds contemporary social issues and situations on fantastical murals with his iconic characters. Cosmic Cavern: #42 Bestest Ever is a site-specific large-scale interactive installation consisting of Day-Glo paintings, ephemera, and reused materials found in the streets of Los Angeles, awakening the seriousness of environmental pollution caused by misguided consumer culture. The exhibition runs until May 9.
케니 샤프의 대규모 설치작품 〈우주 동굴(Cosmic Cavern: #42 Bestest Ever)〉이 런던 사치 갤러리 기획전 《런던 거리 너머로(Beyond the Streets London)》에서 소개된다. 《런던 거리 너머로》는 그래피티와 스트릿 컬처를 통해 독창적인 작품 세계를 구축한 100여명의 세계적인 작가의 주요 작품을 선보이는 전시이다.
공상만화와 그래피티 벽화를 하나의 무대로 삼는 케니 샤프는 당시의, 그리고 현재의 시대적, 사회적 이슈와 상황을 아이코닉한 캐릭터와 더불어 환상적인 화면 안에 담는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 작가가 전시장에서 직접 작업한 〈우주 동굴: #42 Bestest Ever〉는 LA 길거리에 발견된 재활용, 데이글로우(형광) 페인팅 등으로 공간을 꾸민 설치 작품으로, 과소비와 그에 따른 낭비, 잘못된 소비문화로 인한 환경오염의 심각성을 환상적인 공간으로 연출했다. 전시는 5월 9일까지.
