Seulgi Lee presents a solo exhibition titled SLOW WATER at the Jousse Entreprise gallery, Paris, France. The exhibition showcases the artworks she produced in collaboration with craftspeople and artisans from around the world. One can find her humorous take on mundane objects to which she gives a new meaning. The featured works of Lee's Blanket Project, U : The water in which an ax has been boiled and U : We see a white foal passing through the partially open door, each signifies 'tasteless' and a proverb for 'life is a fleeting thing' through the combination of lines and geometric shapes in monochrome.
RIVER AND SEA is a collection of glasses filled with river water sent by the artist's friends from different places of the world during the pandemic. KUNDARI taureau and KUNDARI abeille are geometric installations symbolizing female body parts. In the main space, the audience can find SLOW WATER, a noteworthy work produced in collaboration with the dancheong artisans. The floating grids cast shadows across the spacious gallery, creating a myriad of visual impressions. One can experience a great blend of colors and shapes by walking through the space. The exhibition runs until December 10, 2022.
이슬기 작가의 개인전 《SLOW WATER》가 프랑스 파리의 주스 앙트르프리즈(Jousse Entreprise) 갤러리에서 열리고 있다. 일상적 사물에 해학적 시선으로 새로운 의미를 부여하는 이슬기 작가가 세계 각지의 수공예 장인들과 협업하여 탄생한 작품들이 소개된다. 이번 전시에 선보이는 대표작 이불 프로젝트는 <U : 도끼 삶은 물>과 <U : 백구과극>으로, ‘아무 맛도 없음’, ‘순식간에 흘러가는 덧없는 인생’을 뜻하는 속담을 간결한 선과 단색의 기하학적 문양으로 응축하여 형상화하였다.
전시장에서는 펜데믹으로 격리되어 만나지 못하는 작가의 지인들이 보내온 세계 각지의 강물을 담은 <강과 바다 사이>부터 여성의 신체 기관을 기호화한 <쿤다리 황소>, <쿤다리 꿀벌> 등 다양한 설치 작업도 만나볼 수 있다. 특히 메인 공간에 설치된 <느린 물>은 단청 장인들과 협업을 통해 탄생한 작품이다. 부유하는 격자 무늬는 텅 빈 갤러리에 그림자를 드리우며 다양한 시각적인 인상을 만들어내며, 문살 하나하나에 색을 입혀 관람객들이 공간을 거닐며 감상할 수 있다. 전시는 2022년 12월 10일까지.
