Minjung Kim’s first monograph, Minjung Kim: Ink, Paper, Fire, will be published on September 16 by the renowned arts and design publisher Monacelli, a Phaidon company. The book is currently available for pre-order on Phaidon.com.

Highlighting the oeuvre of Korean contemporary artist Minjung Kim, who has spent more than three decades exploring the traditions of East Asian calligraphy and ink painting and expanding them into the visual language of contemporary abstraction, the monograph features over 150 color images of her works. Alongside documentation of the artist’s creative process, the publication examines the cultural intersections forged by Korean materials and contemporary abstraction, the profound layers shaped by time and process, and a reverence for the recurring organic rhythms of life through a range of thematic sections.

30여 년간 동아시아의 서예와 수묵화 전통을 탐구하며, 이를 현대 추상화의 구성 어휘로 확장해온 한국 현대미술가 김민정을 조명하는 이번 모노그래프에는 총 150여 점의 작품 도판이 수록되어 있다. 작가의 작업 과정을 살펴볼 수 있는 기록과 함께, 한국적 재료와 현대 추상이 빚어내는 문화적 접점, 시간과 과정이 만들어내는 깊은 층위, 반복되는 유기적 삶의 리듬에 대한 경외를 다양한 섹션을 통해 담고 있다.
