Ayoung Kim’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, Delivery Dancer: Time Curves, opens at the Van Abbemuseum on June 6. The exhibition is a part of Dommelplein, an anthology developed by Director Defne Ayas that brings together diverse presentations and activities. Kim’s exhibition is among the inaugural projects to occupy the museum’s newly expanded ground-floor space. Located along the Dommel River, this new space functions as a multifaceted cultural space that accommodates exhibitions and long-term projects alongside workshops, talks, children's programs, and community-based programs.
The exhibition features Kim’s acclaimed work Delivery Dancer’s Arc: Inverse, comprising a three-channel video, a sundial installation, and a lighting installation. Delivery Dancer: Time Curves embodies the artist-centered and experimental platform envisioned by Dommelplein, exploring critical questions surrounding technology, time, and mobility through Kim’s expansive worlds.
In parallel, Kim has been invited to participate in System Thinkers, a newly launched long-term collaborative initiative at the Van Abbemuseum that engages artists directly in the museum’s governance, research, publishing, and public programming. Coinciding with the reopening of the museum’s collection display Collection as Cosmos and the launch of Dommelplein, the project seeks to actively integrate artistic practice into institutional operations and processes of knowledge production. The inaugural cohort includes Ayoung Kim, john gerrard, Ayumi Paul, Kate Crawford, Vladan Joler, and the ADEZIV network. Kim’s practice brings a speculative dimension to the museum’s exploration of artist-led and future-oriented model of museology.
As part of System Thinkers, Kim will participate in a conference taking place in October 2026 and will also present a newly commissioned game score for the city of Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week. Extending her ongoing engagement with game engines, parallel narratives, and algorithmic structures, the new commission expands these interests into the city’s technological, social, and ecological contexts, exploring new intersections between art, technology, and urban infrastructure.
김아영의 네덜란드 첫 개인전 《Delivery Dancer: Time Curves》가 6월 6일부터 반아베미술관(Van Abbemuseum)에서 개최된다. 《Delivery Dancer: Time Curves》은 미술관 디렉터 데프네 아야스(Defne Ayas)가 기획한 다양한 개인 및 팀의 전시와 액티비티를 선보이는 전시 《Dommelplein》의 일환이다. 김아영의 전시는 새롭게 확장된 미술관 1층 공간에서 선보이는 전시 중 하나이다. 돔멜강(Dommel River)을 따라 위치한 이 공간은 기획전과 장기 프로젝트뿐 아니라 워크숍, 강연, 어린이 프로그램undefined, 커뮤니티 활동 등 다양한 공공 프로그램을 수용하는 복합 문화 공간으로 운영된다.
이번 전시에서는 김아영의 대표작 〈딜리버리 댄서의 선: 인버스〉가 소개되며, 이 작품은 3채널 영상과 해시계 설치 및 조명 설치로 구성된다. 《Delivery Dancer: Time Curves》는 《Dommelplein》 이 지향하는 예술가 중심의 실험적 플랫폼을 구현하는 전시로, 김아영의 확장된 서사 세계를 통해 기술, 시간, 이동성을 둘러싼 동시대적 질문들을 탐색한다.
한편 김아영은 반아베미술관이 새롭게 출범한 장기 협업 프로젝트 「System Thinkers」에 초청되어 연구, 연계 컨퍼런스 및 공공 프로그램에 참여할 예정이다. 「System Thinkers」는 예술가들을 미술관의 제도 운영, 연구, 출판, 공공 프로그램에 직접 참여시키는 장기 프로젝트로, 반아베미술관의 소장품 상설전 《Collection as Cosmos》와 새롭게 확장된 《Dommelplein》의 개관에 맞춰 시작된다. 예술적 실천을 전시의 범주를 넘어 기관의 운영과 지식 생산 과정에 적극적으로 접목하고자 하는 이 프로젝트에는 김아영을 비롯해 존 제라드(john gerrard), 아유미 파울(Ayumi Paul), 케이트 크로포드(Kate Crawford), 블라단 욜레르(Vladan Joler), ADEZIV 네트워크 등이 참여한다. 김아영의 작업 세계는 반아베미술관이 모색하는 예술가 주도의 미래지향적 뮤지올로지(museology)에 사변적 차원을 더할 것으로 기대된다.
김아영은 본 프로젝트의 일환으로 2026년 10월 개최되는 컨퍼런스에 참여하는 한편, 더치 디자인 위크(Dutch Design Week) 기간 중 아인트호번을 위해 새롭게 커미션된 게임 스코어를 선보일 예정이다. 이 신작은 게임 엔진, 다중 서사, 알고리즘적 구조에 대한 작가의 지속적인 관심을 도시의 기술적·사회적 환경과 생태적 맥락으로 확장하며, 예술과 기술, 도시 인프라의 새로운 접점을 탐색한다.
