Kim Bohie

Kim Bohie depicts gardens, seascapes, and landscapes encountered in her life in Jeju. Working with both East Asian and Western materials, she gradually builds layers of color on canvas. Through a restrained perspective, her simplified forms of mountains and islands, together with tranquil surfaces of water bring a contemporary lyricism to the tradition of East Asian landscape painting. Kim’s landscapes are not simple representations, but meditative landscapes that reveal the grandeur of nature through observation and contemplation.

Kim Bohie’s The Days, a large-scale work measuring 390 by 648 centimeters, will be presented at Booth U15 in the Unlimited sector of Art Basel in Basel. Vividly capturing the artist’s reverence for life and the vitality of nature, this meditative landscape is composed of twelve canvases arranged in three columns and four rows, forming a monumental yet delicate field of green. The title suggests an accumulation of lived and present moments, pointing to the meaningful time that belongs to each existence as long as it continues to be. Through minimal lines and vivid color, Kim depicts palm trees, tropical plants, birds, and her longtime companion, her dog Leo, translating personal experience and the order of nature into painting. Built through meticulous observation and repeated brushwork, the work reflects the beauty of nature and the preciousness of finite life.

메쎄 바젤 (Messeplatz 10, 4058 Basel, Switzerland)

김보희는 제주에서 생활하며 마주한 정원과 바다, 일상적 풍경을 그린다. 동양과 서양의 재료로 캔버스 위에 색을 차곡차곡 쌓아 올리지만 절제된 시선으로 단순화된 산과 섬의 형태, 잔잔한 수면은 동양적 풍경에 현대적인 서정성을 더한다. 작가가 그리는 풍경은 단순한 재현이 아니라 관찰과 사유를 통해 자연의 장엄함을 보여주는 명상적인 풍경이다. 

김보희가 느낀 생명에 대한 경외와 자연의 에너지를 생동감 넘치게 담은 세로 390,  가로 648 센티의 대규모 작업 〈The Days〉이 ‘아트바젤 바젤 2026’ 언리미티드 섹터의 ‘부스 U15‘에서 공개된다. 12점의 캔버스가 3열 4행으로 배열된 이 명상적인 풍경은 초록으로 덮인 거대한 규모 속에서도 섬세함을 담고 있다. 제목인 ‘The Days’는 지나온 시간과 현재의 순간들이 켜켜이 쌓인 시간을 의미하며 존재가 지속되는 한 각자의 삶에 주어지는 의미 있는 시간을 암시한다. 작가는 간결한 선과 선명한 색채를 통해 야자수와 열대 식물, 새, 그리고 오랜 반려견 레오를 화면에 담아내며, 개인적인 경험과 자연의 질서를 회화로 풀어낸다. 세심한 관찰과 반복적인 붓질을 통해 완성된 작품은 자연의 아름다움과 유한한 삶의 소중함을 되새기게 한다.
