Gallery Hyundai is pleased to participate in the 2023 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. For the Galleries sector at booth A49, Gallery Hyundai will showcase significant works by Korean experimental and abstract artists who have been actively contributing to both the Korean and international art scenes. The presentation will feature works by esteemed artists such as Minjung Kim, Yun-Hee Toh, Moon Kyungwon & Jeon Joonho, Park Hyunki, Sung Neung Kyung, Shin Sung Hy, Lee Kang-So, Kang Seung Lee, Lee Kun-Yong, Seung-taek Lee, Yoo Geun-Taek, Chung Sang-Hwa, and John Pai, who have played pivotal roles in expanding the horizons of Korean modern and contemporary art history.
In the Galleries sector, Gallery Hyundai will highlight important works by five pioneers of the Korean avant-garde—Seung-taek Lee, Park Hyunki, Lee Kun-Yong, Lee Kang-So, and Sung Neung Kyung—whose works are currently being featured at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in the milestone group exhibition Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s–1970s (on view through January 7, 2024). The first of its kind in North America, the show highlights some of the most radical artistic practices of the 20th century that emerged from the tumultuous sociopolitical milieu of Korean modern history and a rapidly globalizing world beyond the nation’s borders. Only the Young will travel to the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, in February of 2024 in time for Frieze Los Angeles 2024.
갤러리현대는 세계 정상급 갤러리가 참여하는 ‘아트바젤 마이애미 비치’의 갤러리즈 섹터 부스 A49에서 실험 미술과 추상 회화, 국내외를 오가며 활발히 활동 중인 작가들의 주요작 및 신작을 엄선하여 소개한다. 김민정, 도윤희, 문경원 & 전준호, 박현기, 성능경, 신성희, 이강소, 이강승, 이건용, 이승택, 유근택, 정상화, 존 배는 한국 현대미술사의 지평을 넓혀온 작가들이다.
특히, 부스 A49에서는 한국 실험미술의 선구자 5인 이승택, 박현기, 이건용, 이강소, 성능경의 주요 작품을 집중 조명한다. 이들은 현재 뉴욕 구겐하임 미술관에서 열리고 있는 《젊은 그들: 한국 실험미술 1960-70년대》(2024년 1월 7일까지)의 대표적인 작가들이다. 《젊은 그들: 한국 실험미술 1960-70년대》는 북미에서 처음 소개되는 유형의 전시로, 한국 현대사의 격동적인 사회 정치적 환경과 국경을 넘어 급속히 진행된 세계화에서 탄생하였던 20세기의 래디컬한 예술 행위들을 조명한다. 본 전시는 2024년 2월 프리즈 LA기간에 맞춰 로스앤젤레스의 해머미술관애서 순회할 예정이다.
