양정욱(b.1982)은 평범한 사람들의 삶과 기억, 노동의 가치를 키네틱 조각과 설치 작업으로 구현한다. 목재, 실, 모터 등 일상적인 재료를 활용해 반복적이고 느린 움직임을 만들어내며, 이를 통해 인간 존재의 존엄성과 공동체적 관계, 시간의 흐름을 시적으로 표현한다. 아파트 경비원, 주차요원, 농부 등 우리 주변 인물들의 이야기를 바탕으로 한 그의 작업은 아날로그적 감성과 서정성을 바탕으로 오늘날 우리가 지켜야 할 가치를 환기시키며, 한국 동시대 조각의 새로운 가능성을 제시한다. 양정욱은 1982년생으로 경원대학교(현 가천대학교) 조소과를 졸업하였다. 주요 개인전으로는 《그래도 해보던 날들》(국립현대미술관, 2026), 《아무런 말도 않고》(더소소, 2022), 《Maybe, It’s like that》(OCI미술관, 2021) 등이 있으며, 최근에는 《모터타임즈》(한국GM 부평공장, 2025), 《2024 올해의 작가상》(국립현대미술관, 2024), 《나너의 기억》(국립현대미술관, 2022) 등 국내 주요 미술기관의 기획전에 참여하였다. 2025년 문화예술발전 유공자 ‘오늘의 젊은 예술가상’을 수상하였으며, 2024년 《올해의 작가상》 최종 수상자로 선정된 바 있다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 경기도미술관, OCI미술관, 부산현대미술관, 대전시립미술관, 전남도립미술관, 그리고 미국 유타미술관 등 국내외 주요 미술기관에 소장되어 있다. Yang Jungwook (b. 1982) is a contemporary Korean artist known for his kinetic sculptures and installations that explore the value of ordinary lives, memory, and labor. Using everyday materials such as wood, thread, and motors, he creates slow, repetitive movements that poetically evoke the dignity of human existence, communal relationships, and the passage of time. Drawing inspiration from the stories of people around us—apartment security guards, parking attendants, farmers, and other often-overlooked individuals—his works employ an analog sensibility and lyrical narrative to remind viewers of the values that deserve to be preserved in contemporary society, while expanding the possibilities of contemporary Korean sculpture. Born in 1982, Yang Jungwook received his B.F.A. in Sculpture from Kyungwon University (now Gachon University). His major solo exhibitions include The Days We Still Tried (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, 2026), Without Saying a Word (The SoSo, 2022), and Maybe, It’s Like That (OCI Museum of Art, 2021). Recent group exhibitions include Motor Times (GM Korea Bupyeong Plant, 2025), Korea Artist Prize 2024 (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, 2024), and The Memory of You and Me (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, 2022), among others at major art institutions in Korea. In 2025, he received the Young Artist of Today Award, presented by the Korean government in recognition of contributions to the development of arts and culture, and in 2024 he was selected as a finalist for the Korea Artist Prize. His works are held in the collections of major institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, OCI Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Daejeon Museum of Art, Jeonnam Museum of Art, and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in the United States.
