Woosung Lee

Lee Woosung (b.1983) is an artist whose practice explores the relationship between everyday life and art, documenting the lives and emotions of people living in contemporary society through painting. Drawing from his own experiences and the stories of those around him, he addresses themes such as youth, friendship, love, family, travel, and queer romance, seeking points of empathy where personal memories and emotions can resonate with others. Through a distinctive blend of humor and lyricism, Lee transforms ordinary encounters and relationships into painterly narratives. Rather than focusing on grand ideological narratives or heroic historical figures, he turns his attention to the experiences, sensibilities, and everyday realities of ordinary individuals. In recent years, he has expanded his practice through large-scale banner paintings, depicting communities in which diverse individuals coexist and expressing themes of human diversity, solidarity, and a collective wish for one another’s well-being.

Born in 1983, Lee Woosung received his BFA in Painting from Hongik University and his MFA in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Korea National University of Arts. He has held major solo exhibitions at Hakgojae (2023), Doosan Gallery (2021), and OCI Museum of Art (2013). His work has also been featured in major institutional exhibitions at the Art Sonje Center (2026), the Asia Culture Center (2024), the Seoul Museum of Art (2024), the Ulsan Art Museum (2023), the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (2021–22), the Arko Art Center (2020), and the Ilmin Museum of Art (2019). His works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the Seoul Museum of Art, the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, the Cheongju Museum of Art, and the OCI Museum of Art.

이우성(b.1983)은 ‘생활과 미술’의 관계를 탐구하며, 동시대를 살아가는 사람들의 삶과 감정을 회화로 기록하는 작가이다. 청춘, 우정, 사랑, 가족, 여행, 퀴어 로맨스 등 자신의 경험과 주변 인물들의 이야기를 바탕으로 작업하며, 개인의 기억과 감정이 타인과 공유될 수 있는 공감의 지점을 모색한다. 그는 일상 속에서 마주한 장면과 관계를 특유의 유머와 서정성으로 풀어내며, 거대 담론이나 역사적 영웅 서사보다는 오늘을 살아가는 개개인의 삶과 감각에 집중한다. 최근에는 대형 걸개그림 형식의 작업을 통해 다양한 인물들이 공존하는 공동체의 풍경을 그려내며, 인간의 다양성과 연대, 그리고 서로의 안녕을 향한 바람을 시각적으로 드러내고 있다.

이우성은 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과를 졸업하고 한국예술종합학교 미술원  조형예술과 평면전공 전문사를 졸업하였다. 학고재(2023), 두산갤러리(2021), OCI미술관(2013)에서 주요 개인전을 개최하였으며, 아트선재센터(2026), 국립아시아문화전당(2024), 서울시립미술관(2024), 울산시립미술관(2023), 부산현대미술관(2022-21),  아르코미술관(2020), 일민미술관(2019)등 국내 주요 전시에도 참여하였다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 경기도미술관, 청주시립미술관, OCI 미술관에 소장되어 있다.
