Sabine Moritz

Sabine Moritz was born in 1969 in Quedlinburg, a town located between Hanover and Leipzig in the former East Germany. In 1985, her family moved to West Germany, where she studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main in 1989, and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1991.

She has held numerous solo exhibitions at major galleries and institutions in Europe, including Pilar Corrias Gallery in London (2014, 2015, 2018, and 2021), Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris (2013, 2016, and 2019), König Galerie in Berlin (2018), Felix Ringel Galerie in Düsseldorf (2012, 2015, and 2020), and Kunsthalle Rostock (2019). She has also taken part in special exhibitions at Kunsthalle Emden (2018), the Imperial War Museums in London (2017), and the Neues Museum in Nuremberg (2012). Her work is included in the collections of such eminent institutions as Tate Modern, Deutsche Bank Collection, Deutscher Bundestag Artothek, and the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Collection.

As an extension of her artistic body of work, Moritz has also been broadening into publication work. She published Lobeda (2010, 2021), a collection of drawings from time in the titular community, with the preeminent art publishers Buchhandlung Walther König and HENI Publishing. As a continuation of that effort, she published JENA Düsseldorf (2011, 2021), a collection focusing on memories and photographs from her childhood. In addition, collections like Limbo: Paintings from 2005 (2006), Roses (2010), and Lilies and Objects (2011) capture her different methodologies as she explores themes such as war, flowers, still-lifes, and spaces within spaces through charcoal and pastels.

Sabine Moritz currently lives and is based in Cologne.

사빈 모리츠(Sabine Moritz)는 1969년 동독 하노버와 라이프치히 사이의 크베들린부르크에서 태어났다. 1985년 유년 시절을 보낸 동독의 로베다를 떠나서 서독으로 이주한 모리츠는 1989년에 오펜바흐미술대학교(Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main), 1991년에 쿤스트아카데미 뒤셀도르프(Kunstakademie Düsseldorf)에서 수학하였다. 

런던 필라코리아스갤러리(2021, 2018, 2015, 2014), 파리 마리안굿맨갤러리(2019, 2016, 2013), 베를린 쾨니히갤러리(2018), 뒤셀도르프 펠릭스링겔갤러리(2020, 2015, 2012) 및 쿤스트할레로스토크(2019) 등 유럽의 주요 갤러리 및 기관에서 다수의 개인전을 개최했다. 그밖에 쿤스트할레엠덴(2018), 런던 임페리얼전쟁박물관(2017), 뉘른베르크주립미술관(2012) 등에서 열린 기획전에도 참여했다. 그의 작품은 테이트모던, 도이체방크컬렉션, 독일연방의회미술관, 루이비통모에헤네시재단(LVMH) 등 유수한 기관에 소장되어 있다.

사빈 모리츠는 작품 세계의 확장으로써 출판 작업을 이어오고 있다. 저명한 예술전문서적 출판사인 발터 쾨니히 출판사(Buchhandlung Walther König)와 헤니 출판사(HENI Publishing)에서 로베다 시절의 드로잉을 모은 작품집 〈Lobeda〉(2010, 2021), 그 연장선상에서 유년시절의 기억과 사진을 바탕으로 완성한 〈JENA Düsseldorf〉(2011, 2021)가 출간되었다. 이외에도 〈Limbo: Paintings from 2005〉(2006), 〈Roses〉(2010)와 〈Lilies and Objects〉(2011) 등의 작품집은 전쟁, 꽃, 정물화, 공간의 틈 등의 테마를 목탄과 파스텔을 재료로 탐구한 작가의 다양한 방법론을 담고 있다.

사빈 모리츠는 현재 쾰른에서 거주하며 작품 활동을 하고 있다.
