Billy Childish (b.1959, Chatham, Kent UK) is known for his introspective, emotional, and unique works spanning the range of paintings, poetries, and music throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and more. Childish addresses social, political, and personal issues including war, social injustice, his childhood trauma from sexual assault, and his struggles with alcohol addiction. Influenced by artists such as Edvard Munch, Vincent van Gogh, and Kurt Schwitters, the artist’s portraits deliver vivid life through the use of strong brush strokes and color contrast.

Childish has held solo exhibitions at a number of institutions such as Rochester Art Gallery, Kent, United Kingdom (2016); Gallery Hyundai, Seoul (2012); Lehmann Maupin, New York (2011); White Columns, New York (2010); and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2010).
